Does Your Congregation Want to Pray for the Persecuted?
Does your church want to join believers worldwide to pray for the estimated 200 million Christians facing persecution for their faith? There is an annual event held the second Sunday of November, although some churches hold it on other dates if more convenient. A free Canadian resource kit is available to help you prepare materials for part of a worship service or a small group meeting at www.idop.ca. The organizing group for the International Day of Prayer Canada includes the EFC Religious Liberty Commission.
Religion and Canadian Public Discourse
EFC President Bruce J. Clemenger will be speaking at a conference called Bridging the Secular Divide: Religion and Canadian Public Discourse at McGill University May 27-28. Other speakers include Dr. Andrew Bennett (Canada’s Ambassador of Religious Freedom); MPs Mark Adler, John McKay and Joe Comartin; and journalists Lorna Dueck and Douglas Todd. Early registration discounts are available until May 15.
Resources on Church and Mission
The Hinge dialogue conference, sponsored by the EFC in November 2010, brought an important discussion to the national level. The conference website is still available with details at theEFC.ca/hinge, where you can find free recordings of some of the proceedings.
Can't Find an Event?
To supplement the EFC Christian Community Calendar, you may want to visit the listings offered by the EFC-affiliate organizations ChristianWeek and the Canadian Council of Christian Charities. Sometimes it's also worth checking city-related Christian calendars (these aren't connected to the EFC in any way): Atlantic Canada (JesusAtlantic.com), Calgary (CalgaryChristian.com), Ottawa (Chri FM), southern Ontario (ChristianHerald.ca), southern Ontario (Life FM), Toronto (Gospel Connection).
